FMS REPRESENTATIVES TAKE MATERIALS R&D AND EDUCATION MESSAGE TO THE HILL
 
Representatives of FMS and its member societies joined over 200 other scientists and engineers for the 9 th Annual Science-Engineering-Technology Congressional Visits Day on March 3-4, 2004.
 
The FMS delegation included:
 
Iver Anderson , FMS President
Betsy Houston , FMS Executive Director
Vince Fratello , representing the American Association for Crystal Growth
Jim Greer, Jim Key, Ernest Levert , and Chris Pollock , representing the American Welding Society
Jim Dale, Bob Noel, and Jon Tirpak , representing ASM International
Kevin Hemker, Warren Hunt, Alex Scott, Dan Thoma, and Murat Tiryakioglu , representing The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society
 
In visits to 32 Congressional offices, the materials community representatives emphasized the need for continued federal support of science and technology research and development, and of S&T education programs, even in these times of budget constraints. They answered questions from members of Congress and their staffs, urged House and Senate members to join their respective R&D caucuses, and committed to following up the annual Washington visits with continuing contact with their Representatives and Senators in the home districts.
